Start with zombies, add some Pittsburgh football, plus a dash of “Mister Rogers Neighborhood,” and you have “Night of the Living Steelers.” Filmmaker George A. Romero is the fascinating common denominator.
The hourlong feature is Wednesday’s entry in “The Timeline,” on NFL Network (8 p.m.). Mr. Romero, a New York native who put Pittsburgh on the monster map with his iconic 1968 film “Night of the Living Dead,” narrates the documentary.
Little-known fact: early in his career as a horror filmmaker, he took a 2½-year break from fake blood and guts to shoot real, blood-and-guts sports stories.
