When the Steelers play their first preseason game at Heinz Field on Aug. 23, construction of the new seating in the South Plaza end zone is expected to be completed.
The Steelers are adding nearly 3,000 new seats that will include a combination of general seating, premium seating and suites.
Also, the plaza level where fans would stand behind the goalpost has not been eliminated; it merely has been raised one level above the new seats.
The construction will not interfere with the view of the Downtown skyline from the Heinz Field seats.
“The scoreboard will not change with the South Plaza construction project,” Burt Lauten, the Steelers communications coordinator, said on the team’s website.
