Najee Harris Was Supposed To Go Down Instead Of Score On Breakaway TD: ‘I Was Like, Nah’

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Najee Harris went into last night’s game needing 72 rushing yards to break the team’s all-time rookie franchise record for rushing yards in a single season. Instead, he set three team rookie records all on the same night—yards from scrimmage, single-season rushing yards, and single-game rushing yards.

He broke the record on the Steelers’ final meaningful drive of the game, during which he rushed for 45 yards on three carries, including a game-sealing 37-yard breakaway touchdown. That put him at 188 rushing yards on the night, surpassing Bam Morris’ mark of 146 rushing yards set in 1994.
