DeAngelo Williams was a teammate of Steve Smith for eight seasons when both played for the Carolina Panthers.
And they have a lot in common. Williams is the team’s all-time leading rusher with 6,846 yards. Smith is the franchise’s all-time leading receiver with 836 receptions and 12,197 receiving yards.
Tonight, they will be on opposite sidelines — Williams in his first season as a backup running back with the Steelers, Smith in his second season as the top receiver for the Baltimore Ravens.
But, even though he is 36 and supposed to be on the backside of a spectacular career, one thing hasn’t changed about Smith: He still plays with the same ferocity and tenacity that made him a five-time Pro Bowl receiver with the Panthers.
