The standard for the quarterback position has evolved somewhat recently. It has become almost vital for teams to have a quarterback who is capable of moving around—if not a regular scrambling threat, then at least somebody who is capable of extending plays under pressure routinely.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has been hammering that point for years now, almost as though he was talking himself into the correct profile for his next franchise quarterback after Ben Roethlisberger retires. Now he has his presumptive next franchise quarterback in Kenny Pickett.
Does he fit the profile, though? According to his quarterback coach, Tony Racioppi, he does…not that there’s any bias there or anything.
