Pittsburgh's independent Citizen Police Review Board has opened an inquiry into the arrest of assistant Steelers coach Joey Porter this weekend.
Executive director Elizabeth Pittinger said Tuesday evening that the board had not received any complaints about the arrest, nor had it heard from Porter or anyone representing him. Pittinger said she opened the inquiry to help people "discern facts from speculation."
"It's not unusual, because it was a high-profile incident. Both characters bring a certain celebrity with them, and there's an awful lot of public speculation and innuendo out there," Pittinger said. "Because of that, and the board's desire to assure the public that appropriate policies and procedures are followed, in that kind of circumstance, I would open an inquiry.
