Gene Collier: Vikings fans, Super Bowl hosts, smile and seethe and insist it's not cold

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — It was not cold Monday in the greater Twin Cities area.

It was 9 degrees.

But the friendly hosts and hostesses for the 2018 Super Bowl started the week in a full communal scoff at the teeth-stinging temperatures.

“It’s not cold,” they say in a way that you would think they were on their way home to fill their swimming pools. “What’s the matter with you?”

Sure, it could be worse. We could have been here in January 1888 (Bud Grant was the Vikings coach, I believe), when the temperature hit 41 below.
