Penguins defenseman Mark Friedman has been fined, but not suspended, for spearing Blue Jackets center Sean Kuraly in the first period of the Penguins' 4-3 overtime victory at Nationwide Arena Saturday night.
The fine of $1,812.50, the maximum allowable under the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement, will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident occurred at 9:47 of the opening period, after Kuraly had bowled over Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry.
Kuraly was assessed a minor for goaltender interference, while Friedman got a major penalty for spearing and a game misconduct.
