Former Steelers WR Burress working on deal in tax evasion case, lawyer says

TRENTON, N.J. — An attorney for former NFL star Plaxico Burress said in court Monday he’s confident his client can work out a deal with prosecutors in his tax evasion case, but he wouldn’t say whether it would keep him out of jail.

The former wide receiver with the Steelers, Giants and Jets has pleaded not guilty to willful failure to pay state tax and issuing a bad check or electric funds transfer. Prosecutors say he failed to pay about $48,000 in state income taxes from 2013, the amount that would be due for someone with a taxable income of about $550,000.
