The Pittsburgh Steelers signed free agent running back Wendell Smallwood last week and now the West Virginia product will battle during training camp for a spot on the 53-man roster, which could ultimately include four total running backs. One of the man things that Smallwood will likely need to show the Steelers in the coming weeks to help his roster chances is that he can be counted on to pass protect and play on special teams. A look back over his first four seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins shows that he’ll likely be able to show the Steelers he can be reliable in both of those phases.
