Film Room: Mason McCormick Gets First Taste Of Center Action

Once veteran interior offensive lineman Nate Herbig went down with a season-ending shoulder injury that landed him on Injured Reserve, questions arose regarding who the backup center would be for the Pittsburgh Steelers with rookie Zach Frazier elevated to the starting lineup.

The general belief is that the Steelers will lean on second-year pro Spencer Anderson and rookie Mason McCormick to handle the backup duties.

Neither has much experience at the center position in the NFL, though. In fact, McCormick had just 15 career snaps at center in his collegiate career.

Knowing that, the Steelers worked him at center quite a bit throughout the last week leading up to the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions, and then they made an effort to get him some reps.
