Former Pitt and NFL quarterback Dan Marino was honored today at Central Catholic, his high school alma mater, as part of a nationwide program to honor pro football stars in their hometowns.
Marino, a 1983 Miami Dolphins draft pick who became the first player to pass for 5,000 yards in a season, was honored with a plaque that will remain at Central Catholic.
The three-time First-Team All-Pro quarterback, who made the Pro Bowl nine times over his 17 seasons in the NFL, threw for 48 touchdowns in 1984, good for fourth all-time. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.
