The Pittsburgh Steelers have had several notable players with nicknames throughout the team’s history. From Mean Joe Greene, to Deebo, to The Bus. Typically nicknames are bestowed on some of the team’s best players. But where do these names come from in the first place? In the case of Casey “Big Snack” Hampton, it was completely made up by a teammate and caught on with the fan base to become ubiquitous with his name.
“First of all, none of my teammates never called me that, right? So I’m gonna tell you how I got the name,” Hampton said in an interview with Rob King on the Steelers’ YouTube page.
