The public messages sent by two Steelers defensive coaches on the final day of voluntary practices were aimed at the young and old alike and centered on the weakest group of the team.
The secondary not only needs to improve; it must. And those standing around at practice are not helping either themselves or their teammates. That goes for cornerback Senquez Golson, who missed all of his rookie season after shoulder surgery, and veteran safety Mike Mitchell, who had shoulder surgery after the season. Neither has been practicing. Golson reported he had a soft tissue injury.
“If you recall last year, I probably whined or bellyached too much about not getting our guys until the first game,” defensive coordinator Keith Butler said.
