A Brentwood businessman who testified against former Pittsburgh Steelers doctor Richard Rydze in his federal steroid and narcotics trafficking trial and cooperated against him in a second fraud case has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison.
U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti imposed that term Thursday on James Hatzimbes, 47, a former business partner of Rydze who was indicted with him in 2012 and 2015 and later became a prosecution witness.
After one of the longest trials in the history of this federal district, Rydze was convicted in May on 180 counts related to distribution of steroids, human growth hormone and narcotic painkillers across the region.
