Bill Cowher: Mike Tomlin 'did the appropriate thing' with Joey Porter

Joey Porter doesn’t have to worry about those assault charges anymore. Whether he’s on the sideline for the Steelers’ playoff game in Kansas City on Sunday remains to be seen.

Regardless, Mike Tomlin made the right call to put his outside linebackers coach on indefinite leave, ex-Steelers coach Bill Cowher told 93.7 The Fan’s Joe Starkey and Chris Mueller on Thursday.

Porter, 39, had an altercation with a police officer and a doorman at a South Side bar on Sunday night. The next morning, Tomlin made his decision. The Allegheny County district attorney’s office on Thursday, after a review of surveillance footage, announced that it would withdraw charges of aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest and trespassing.
