The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense wilted down the stretch amidst the team’s five-game losing streak. At one point, the defense looked like one of the best in football, and they played like it through the first half of the season, but issues with communication became apparent down the stretch, and the defense forced just five turnovers in their final five games. That’s led to speculation about the future of defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. While now it seems likely that Austin will remain as Pittsburgh’s DC, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said the team should add to their staff with a senior defensive assistant.
