Art Rooney II: NFL owners have had 'good discussion' on national anthem

ORLANDO, Fla. — League owners spent several days at the annual meetings discussing player behavior and how it relates to the national anthem, Steelers president Art Rooney II said Wednesday.

Rooney said the matter will be discussed further when the owners meet again in May, but he didn’t know if the topic would come to a vote or not.

“We had a good discussion about the anthem,” Rooney said at the Ritz Carlton resort. “The dialogue with the players will continue.”

It is not clear if the discussion centered on the league adopting a standard that it requires all players to follow during the playing of the anthem or if the responsibility will fall on the players and their union to adopt a policy.
