When Gift Ngoepe played his first game for the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 26th this year, he became the first player from the entire continent of Africa to make it to the majors. He originally signed with the Pirates in 2008, so it was a long journey to the majors. His story has been widely told, plus he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays this off-season, so I talked to the other two players from South Africa who play for the Pirates in the minors. I wanted to hear about their stories of playing baseball while growing up.
