The Pittsburgh Pirates Short Season-A affiliate, the West Virginia Black Bears, hosted the first game of the New York Penn League Championship Series at Monongalia County Ballpark on Monday, September 14th. The opponent, the Staten Island Yankees, came in fresh off their two game sweep of the Tri-City Valleycats.
The West Virginia Black Bears sent JT Brubaker to the mound while the Staten Island Yankees started Kolton Mahoney. In the top of the second, Zack Zehner drove a JT Brubaker pitch deep to left field for a solo home run into the Yankees bullpen.
