Saturday’s game wasn’t quite as mind-numbingly dull as Friday’s, but it was sort of another snoozer after the Pirates jumped out to a quick lead. Sean O’Sullivan is about as unremarkable of a major league pitcher as you’ll ever see, and while I wouldn’t say he pitched well, the Pirates weren’t exactly hitting him hard. (They scored early largely thanks to some infield hits and sketchy Phillies defense).
Meanwhile, Gerrit Cole did not dominate the woeful Phillies lineup like you would hope/expect him to….but man, a relatively unimpressive Cole start these days is still pretty darn good: 6 innings, 2 runs (1 earned), 7 K’s, 0 walks.
