MIAMI -- Right-hander Ryan Vogelsong had surgery on Thursday to repair multiple facial fractures. Vogelsong is resting comfortably at home, according to a statement released by the Pirates.
Vogelsong underwent surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. The operation was performed by Dr. Randall Beatty, who evaluated Vogelsong on Wednesday. Vogelsong will meet with team doctors next week to set up a rehabilitation timeline.
Vogelsong was struck in the face by a 92-mph fastball while batting against Rockies pitcher Jordan Lyles on May 23. The veteran right-hander was carted off the field and taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where he spent the following three days as doctors waited for the swelling to subside around his injured left eye.
