BRADENTON, Fla. — The Pirates lost their split-squad games against the Atlanta Braves, 15-1, and the Baltimore Orioles, 13-5, on Saturday. Here’s a quick look at what you need to know in three key areas of the day’s results:
On the mound
At home against the Braves, Trevor Williams made his first start (third game) of spring and pitched four innings. Williams was especially crisp in his middle innings, taking down the Braves in order in the second and third before allowing three runs, including a two-run homer to Dustin Peterson, in the fourth.
“I made a few bad pitches at the end that hurt me, but other than that I feel like all my pitches were working great today and I had a lot of consistent release points on all my pitches,” Williams said.
