The Pirates are moving Tony Watson out of the closer’s role.

The Pirates will unplug Tony Watson from the closer’s role. Felipe Rivero and Juan Nicasio will share the ninth.

Watson allowed four runs, two of them earned, in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s 9-6 extra-innings loss to the Orioles. It was Watson’s fifth appearance out of the past 10 in which he has allowed multiple runs.

“We’re going to use the bullpen to win games,” manager Clint Hurdle said.
