If you asked a 13-year-old Mike Tomlin what the most important moment in his life was, he would have told you a “silly story.”
He was playing pinball with a friend at a 7-Eleven when Lawrence Taylor, the linebacker for the New York Giants, walked in. Mr. Taylor bought beer, ice and a cooler and tapped the future head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers to help him carry it out.
When he was done, the Hall of Famer said to him, “Stay in school and you’ll be like me.”
It was a huge moment for any fan.
