TORONTO — First-year bench coach Tom Prince will manage the Pirates the next two days at Rogers Centre as manager Clint Hurdle attends Don Baylor’s funeral in Austin, Texas. Hurdle is expected to rejoin the team Sunday for a series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Baylor died Monday from multiple myeloma. He gave Hurdle his first Major League coaching job in 1998 when he added him to his Colorado Rockies staff as hitting coach. A decade later, Hurdle was Rockies manager and tapped Baylor to be his hitting coach. They remained close after both departed the Colorado organization and continued on to their next coaching stops.
