TORONTO — Bench coach Tom Prince, the Pirates’ acting manager Friday and Saturday, described his job this weekend as “keeping the seat warm” for manager Clint Hurdle. With Hurdle attending funeral services for his close friend and former colleague Don Baylor, who died Monday, Prince temporarily moved into the visiting manger’s office at Rogers Centre.
Seated in a high-backed black chair at the manager’s desk Friday, Prince, 52, offered condolences to Baylor’s family. The opportunity to manage a Major League game from start to finish for the first time, he admitted, was “exciting,” despite the circumstances.
