Thirty games, man

I usually don’t really like when people point out “the Pirates are now __ games over .500!” or “the last time they were this many games over .500 was 19__.” We are past that. The Pirates are good now, and .500 is no longer a benchmark. Games back/ahead in the standings matter, not games below/above .500.

But thirty games over seems like as good a time as ever to just step back for a second and appreciate this season. Yes, it’s a high water mark in this new era of Pirate success, but it also is just a really good, round (but also staggering) number.
