The Pittsburgh Pirates were closing in on a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers as the July trade deadline approached. This would have come as a surprise as the Pirates had already swung one trade with their divisional rivals shipping out Jordan Lyles. However, there is a report that the team almost struck another deal with the Brew Crew. The fact that the team was looking to make two trades with the Brewers was quite surprising.
According to Robert Murray of The Athletic, who covers the Brewers, the Pirates were interested in acquiring Brewers back end of the bullpen reliever Jeremy Jeffress.
