The Pirates exchange salary arbitration figures with players Friday. Here's what that means.

Friday is the day you’ve all been waiting for.

It’s the deadline for MLB teams and arbitration-eligible players to exchange salary figures.

OK, that may not sound like much, but in this incredibly slow offseason, we’ll take what we can get, right?

The Pirates have four arbitration-eligible players: Gerrit Cole, George Kontos, Jordy Mercer and Felipe Rivero. The team offered contracts to these players earlier this offseason — the non-tender deadline was Dec. 1 — and therefore already agreed to go through the arbitration process with them. Players are arbitration-eligible three (or four) times before they become free agents.
