The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that Steve Lombardozzi has cleared waivers and he was sent outright to Indianapolis. He was designated for assignment on Thursday when the Pirates picked up Aramis Ramirez.
Lombardozzi has played 12 games for the Pirates this year over two separate stints, going 0-for-10, with a walk and a run scored. He pinch-hit 11 times and pinch-ran once. He has been one of the better hitters for Indianapolis this season, with a .304/.362/.350 slash line in 67 games. He's played five different positions as well, so there is a possibility we could see him again as a September call-up for bench depth, though he would need to be added to the 40-man roster again.
