Not even the red-hot Gerrit Cole could save the Pirates from their most recent funk – although even if he had pitched great (he didn’t – it was his worst outing of the year, although it wasn’t really that bad) it probably wouldn’t have mattered. The dormant Pirate offense had yet another miserable evening.
This team is just tough to watch right now. The at bats aren’t competitive. The breaks aren’t going their way. Nobody whatsoever is swinging a hot bat. Any mini rally that begins developing always seems to happen with two outs and is quickly quashed.
