PHILADELPHIA — The Pirates on Tuesday transferred Starling Marte’s rehab assignment to Class AAA Indianapolis.
Marte began his assignment Sunday as he nears the end of his 80-game steroid suspension. He went 1 for 6 in two games with high-A Bradenton. He is eligible to return July 18.
Marte was suspended in April after testing positive for Nandrolone, an anabolic steroid.
When Marte returns, he will play left field. The Pirates put him in center, and Andrew McCutchen in right, at the beginning of the season. “That’s where [Marte] needs to fit in,” manager Clint Hurdle said.
