Joe Musgrove excited fans as he struck out the side in the top of the first inning, but it was all downhill from there. After allowing a pair of runs in the second, the game was never in doubt as the Pirates fell for the 13th time in 17 games.
Ross Stripling dominated Pirates batters for five innings, much as his college teammate Michael Wacha did in Pittsburgh’s last game on Sunday. Stripling scattered four singles without a walk while striking out seven.
Matt Kemp opened the Dodgers second lining a 3-2 pitch into left for a single.
