In a decision that brings us a step closer to achieving gender equality among anthropomorphized food, the Pirates are adding a second female contestant to the PNC Park pierogi race.
Pizza Penny will make her debut after the fifth inning of the April 7 home opener, the team announced Thursday. She joins trail-blazer Jalapeño Hannah, 2015 addition Bacon Burt and standbys Sauerkraut Saul, Cheese Chester and Oliver Onion.
The status of Cheese Chester, who hasn’t raced since a cheating scandal in April 2015, is unknown.
