SAN DIEGO — Perhaps Joe Musgrove just needed a bit of home. While Musgrove, a native of San Diego, had pitched in the 2016 Futures Game at Petco Park, on Friday he made his first MLB start here. After back-to-back starts in which he pitched fewer than four innings and allowed at least five runs, Musgrove seemed to find a groove.
So did the Pirates offense, which showed early spark, teaming up with Musgrove on a 6-3 victory over the San Diego Padres. At the halfway point of the 2018 season, the Pirates have assembled a 39-42 record.
