Rule 5 pick Jordan Milbrath heads back to Cleveland; Jack Leathersich claimed off waivers

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Cleveland Indians have claimed left-hander Jack Leathersich off waivers from the Pirates. In addition, Rule 5 pick Jordan Milbrath cleared waivers and will also be heading back to the Indians organization.

The moves clear two spots on the Pirates’ 40-man roster, which currently sits at 37 players. Prior to these two spots opening up, general manager Neal Huntington said the Pirates would continue to explore options to fill their open roster spots.

The Pirates selected Milbrath from the Indians in the Rule 5 draft in December. As a Rule 5 pick, Milbrath had to be kept on the 25-man roster or put on waivers, then offered back to Cleveland if nobody claimed him.
