Roster Update: Brent Morel Refuses Outright Assignment, Elects Free Agency

Brent Morel, who had been designated for assignment on Saturday, following a game winning hit on Friday night, cleared waivers but decided to refuse assignment to Indianapolis and instead elected to become a free agent. Morel was drafted in the third round of the 2008 draft by the Chicago White Sox. He was selected off of waivers by the Pirates in February 2014 from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Morel played in 26 games for the Pirates in 2014 and 2015, and batted .196 with five RBIs.
