In one sense, Major League Baseball got it right. Felipe Vazquez is the Pirates player most deserving for the All-Star game. For a long time, it looked as if it would be Corey Dickerson, but he had just one home run since May 4 and three RBIs since the end of May going into Monday night’s game against Washington. Francisco Cervelli appeared to belong after the first 2½ months of the season but got hurt — again — and missed 2½ weeks. There is no one else. Vazquez is the only choice on an awful team.
Talk about damning someone with praise.
