Gerrit Cole of the Pirates and Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers should feel fortunate they escaped the hair-pull Friday night at PNC Park with no-decisions. Neither deserved to win. Each pitched poorly enough to lose. Theirs was a much-anticipated matchup that didn’t come close to living up to the hype. It was more fizzle than sizzle.
Don’t you hate when that happens?
At least the game was wildly entertaining with a terrific ending for the big home crowd of 39,404. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle talked a few hours earlier about somehow getting past Kershaw and into the Dodgers’ “problematic” bullpen.
