The fourth is not with Charlie Morton.
For the second start in a row, Morton’s outing turned messy after three easy innings. He gave up three runs in the fourth Sunday afternoon, two more on his fielding error in the sixth, and the Colorado Rockies (52-76) blanked the Pirates, 5-0, in their series finale at PNC Park.
The Pirates (79-50) managed just four hits and struck out 10 times. Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa (8-6) struck out seven, walked one and gave up four hits in six-plus innings.
With an off day tomorrow, the Pirates closed the month with a 19-8 record, their best August since going 19-8 in August 1992.
