MLB Spring Training starts this week, and though we’re all aware that the Pittsburgh Pirates have a strong farm system, GM Ben Cherington still has a lot of work to do in assembling a competent Opening-Day roster. According to a recent report by the Post-Gazette, he has plenty of plans to upgrade the team in Spring Training. Cherington said:
“We’ve been engaged, both with free agency and trade. We’re confident we’ll be able to add to this team, both through free agency and trade throughout spring training, over the course of these next two or three weeks.
