According to a report from Cory Giger of the Altoona Mirror, Joey Cora will be named third base coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates recently fired Rick Sofield, who had been the third base coach for the last two seasons. Cora managed the Altoona Curve to a first place finish in the Eastern League this year, his first seasons as team manager.
Cora played 11 seasons in the majors. He has four years of minor league managing experience, as well as three years as a third base coach for the Chicago White Sox, and six seasons total as a bench coach for the White Sox (five years) and Miami Marlins.
