PITTSBURGH -- Even as they started the final month of the season with little chance of playing into October, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds are showing that they haven't quit.
The teams, which play the second game of a weekend series Saturday night at PNC Park, could essentially be in a race to avoid the National League Central cellar.
The Reds (58-77) are in last but moved within five games of Pittsburgh (63-72) with a 7-3 win in the series opener Friday.
"That's a good win," Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez said.
