Kevin Young played for 11 Pirates teams. None of them had a winning record.
One might think that experience could sour a player on a city and a franchise, but not him. In fact, the former first baseman from 1992-95 and 1997-03 returned to the organization in 2014 as a special assistant and has been working with Pirates first basemen and taking on other assignments across the organization since.
Last weekend, he was in town for the Pirates’ series against the Miami Marlins, which perhaps not coincidentally was when first base prospect Josh Bell, someone Young has worked with quite a bit, returned to the big leagues for the first time since his brief stint with the team in July.
