Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen on Thursday apologized to the team's official scorer after saying he should be fired for ruling a misplayed ball by McCutchen an error.
McCutchen on Wednesday dropped a fly ball that would have been the third out of the third inning against the Chicago Cubs. Ben Zobrist hit a three-run homer on the next pitch, launching the Cubs to a 6-2 victory and series sweep of the Pirates.
Tony Krizmanich charged McCutchen with his first error of the season.
After the game, McCutchen, a former Gold Glove winner, said, “Whoever scored that an error should be fired.
