The Cubs brought the Pittsburgh Pirates’ five-game winning streak to an end Monday by shutting the Bucs out 4-0 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Clint Hurdle’s crew saw their record move to 11-9. Last season, they were 9-11 after 20 contests. Pittsburgh is holding at third place in the National League Central Division behind the first-place St. Louis Cardinals (12-6) and the second-place Cubs (11-7).
It was not Vance Worley‘s night on the North Side of the Windy City as he surrendered four eaned runs on nine hits over six innings. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound righthander struck out three and walked one as he delievered 61 of his 97 pitches for strikes.
