Pittsburgh Pirates News: Ryan Lavarnway Signs With The Yankees

For much of the 2018 season veteran Ryan Lavarnway and youngster Jacob Stallings split the catching duties for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians. This, however, will not be the case in 2019.

Stallings is out of options and can not begin the season in the minor leagues. As for Lavarnway, on Thursday afternoon he signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees.

During the 2018 campaign Lavarnway slashed .288/.375/.485 at the Triple-A level. He posted a .197 ISO, .384 wOBA, and a wRC+ of 145 in 77 games for the Indians. This was Lavarnway’s best season in the minor leagues since 2015.
