When the Pittsburgh Pirates brought in new General Manager Ben Cherington, it was made clear that he would be more aggressive on the prospect front than his predecessor. He showed that in his first trade with the Diamondbacks bringing back two high ceiling, teenage prospects in Brennan Malone and Liover Peguero.
Then, not long after, it came out that the team was the favorite to sign one of the top amateur International free agents that would be eligible to sign this July 2nd. A few weeks ago Baseball America reported that the team would be signing outfielder Shalin Polanco to a seven-figure bonus.
