In a little over a month, Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers and catchers will report to Bradenton for the start of Spring Training. With Spring Training right around the corner, it was important for new manager Derek Shelton to finalize his 2020 coaching staff. On Tuesday, Shelton did just that.
Mike Rabelo was hired as the team’s assistant hitting coach on Tuesday. Rabelo will work with Rick Eckstein and the Pirate hitters in 2020. The 39-year-old Rabelo joins Shelton’s staff after leading the Double-A Erie Sea Wolves to a 77-61 record as the manager of the Detroit Tigers’ Double-A squad in 2019.
